About The Author
Manorama Choudhury, an immigrant U.S. citizen originally from Berhampur, Odisha, India, is a versatile global citizen who is a passionate poet/writer, dedicated philanthropist, and innovative social entrepreneur.
With a background shaped by rich experiences in various parts of the world, Manorama emerged as a multilingual writer, deeply appreciative of language and culture. Her writing spans across genres, from heartfelt poems in Odia, Hindi, and English to insightful blogs and articles on topics ranging from travel experiences to spiritual reflections. She aspires to inspire, uplift, and create awareness through her words, touching readers’ hearts worldwide. She has also delved into creative intellectual pursuits through songwriting, painting, fashion designing, edible arts, mask arts, and other visual art mediums.
Manorama’s writing and philanthropy are intertwined, reflecting her values of compassion, authenticity, and social responsibility. Beyond her family life, she is deeply committed to philanthropic endeavors, focusing on education, health, and women’s empowerment. She actively fosters and promotes handloom products and indigenous artisans, contributing to the socioeconomic development of her homeland. Her dedication to these causes stems from a strong belief in giving back to society and making a positive impact on the lives of others.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Political Science, a Master’s in Business Administration from Berhampur University and Bentley University, and an additional diploma in Interior Decoration from Kolkata, India.
Manorama is the author of “Ashtanayika: Tatwa O Kabita” in the Odia language, a research-based book that explores various romantic moods of women as described in the Natya Shastra, supported by her self-composed classical and modern poems. She was awarded the ‘Outstanding Woman of the Year for Art and Literature 2023’ by India New England. Some of her poems have been adapted into songs and videos.
Manorama recites poetry on many platforms including SAPNE (Harvard Poetry Meet), Nabagunjara, Odia Literature in North America, Ame Odia Ame Odisha, and Srujani Parivar. Her articles are published in various digital and print media including IndiaNewEngland, Urmi, Utkarsh, Anthology of Poetry, Sagar, Diptisudha, Jharana, Ratnachira, Odishapositive.org, Drishti, Lokvani, womenwhowin100.com, and kabitalive.com.
She is the chairwoman of the Avanti Holdings Company and a team member of the nonprofit SASI (South Asia Study Initiative, thesasi.org). She actively promotes or engages with Ekal Vidyalaya, Vision Aid, Akshaya Patra, the Desai Foundation, Samarthanam, and a few other charitable organizations. During the onset of the pandemic, she made 2,700 handmade masks, contributing to the 25,000 masks made by Sew We Care, a local charity team that emerged out of necessity.
